Job Summary

 

Applies coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel or lacquer to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings and other structures. Reads work orders or receives instruction from supervisor and/or crew leader.

 

Essential Duties

 

1. Prepares, cleans and paints surface of walls, floors, ceiling and furniture; mix material used as paints, stains, varnishes, enamels and lacquers to match specified colors.

2. Spreads drop cloths over floor and room furnishing, and covers surfaces, such as base boards, door frames and windows with masking tape to protect surface during painting.

3. Makes minor plastering repairs to walls and ceiling; uses brushes, spray guns and paint rollers as required.

4. Removes old paint by various paint methods. Cleans tools and equipment after use.

5. Ensure all material is stocked daily on painter’s truck prior to leaving for job site; keep up with cleaning old or out dated material off of vehicle.

6. Access and navigate the School Dude maintenance software to document labor, materials, and other applicable data.

7. Access and navigate the SunTrust Spending Platform to reconcile P-Card purchases.

8. Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)

 

High school diploma or trade school certificate of completion is required. Moderate experience as a skilled journeyman painter is preferred. The ability to operate a motor vehicle with valid Virginia Driver’s License is required.
